Privacy Policy

This policy explains how Nearer ("Nearer", "we", "us") handles information when you use the Nearer app and website (the "Service"). Prayer is personal, so we've tried to collect as little as possible and be plain about what we do.

What we collect

• Account details: your name, email address and, if you add one, a profile photo.
• Prayers: audio you record during a prayer call and the text transcript made from it.
• Check-ins and journal: the moods you pick, prayers you pin or mark answered, and your streak history.
• Preferences: reminder times, appearance and storage settings.
• Device and usage data: app version, device type, crash reports and basic, de-identified usage events that help us fix bugs.

We don't collect your precise location, contacts or advertising identifiers.

How we use it

• To run the Service: save your prayers, build your journal and transcripts, and keep your streak.
• To send the reminders and notifications you've turned on.
• To keep Nearer secure, fix problems and understand which features are useful.
• To reply when you contact us.

We don't use the content of your prayers for advertising, and we don't use it to train AI models.

Where it's stored

You choose in Settings → Storage:

• On this device (default): recordings and transcripts stay on your phone. If you delete the app, they're gone unless you've backed them up.
• Cloud: an encrypted copy is kept in your account so you can restore it on a new phone.
• Both: kept on your phone and backed up to the cloud.

To make a transcript, audio may be sent securely to a speech-to-text provider that processes it on our behalf and doesn't keep it afterward.

Who we share with

We don't sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with:

• Service providers who help us run Nearer (hosting, transcription, crash reporting, email), under contracts that limit how they can use it.
• Authorities, when we're legally required to, and only as much as is required.
• A successor, if Nearer is ever merged or acquired. This policy would continue to protect your information.

Your choices

• Edit your profile, reminders and storage settings at any time.
• Turn off notifications in the app or in your phone's settings.
• Export your prayers and transcripts from Settings → Storage.
• Ask us to access, correct or delete your information by emailing hello@nearer.cc.

Depending on where you live, you may have more rights under laws like the GDPR or CCPA. We honor these requests wherever you are.

Retention & deletion

We keep your information while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your cloud data within 30 days, except where we must keep something by law. Data on your phone is deleted when you remove it or uninstall the app.

Children

Nearer is for people aged 13 and over. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you think a child has given us information, email us and we'll delete it.

International users

Nearer is used around the world, so your information may be processed in countries other than yours. Wherever it's processed, we protect it as this policy describes.

Changes

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll tell you in the app before the change takes effect. The date at the top always shows the latest version.
